North York Moors
At Danby, The Moors National Park Centre is at the heart of the North York Moors and a great family day out. Interactive exhibits and gallery. For children, there’s an outdoor adventure play area and indoor climbing wall, children’s trails and a lively events programme. Woodland and riverside trails and plenty of picnic areas. Information Centre, gift shop and the Woolly Sheep café.

North York Moors Steam Railway
The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway’s 18-mile line runs through the beautiful North York Moors National Park between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont. Other stations along the line include Levisham Station, Newton Dale Halt and Goathland Station.
Start your journey at Pickering and discover the history of the Railway in the visitor centre. Or relive the magic of Harry Potter and Heartbeat with a start at Goathland. Goathland may be better known to some people as it’s fictional name “Aidensfield” as made famous by ITV’s Hearbeat television series.

Whitby
Whitby is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey and its 199 steps. This traditional maritime town , with old cobbled streets and picturesque houses is a great place for a visit. Whitby is set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays. Great shops offering local crafts, famous Whitby Jet jewellery, maritime memorabilia and antiques. Whitby also has award winning seafood restaurants, traditional sea-shanty inns and olde worlde English tea rooms.

Beck Hole
A beautiful, peaceful secluded village with a unique real ale 19th century pub – two bars with a sweetshop in the middle. (Real ale pub of the year in 2010.) Very pretty village and interesting local walks by the river.

Runswick Bay
Runswick Bay is a small village with lovely sandy beach, ancient thatched coastguard’s cottage, single pub and tiny café selling homemade cakes and pastries. Scenic paths lead North and South on the Cleveland Way, Spectacular views. Fossil hunter’s paradise. Great bay for surfing.

Goathland,situated in the North Yorkshire Moors north of Pickering is famous as Aidensfield, the 1960’s setting for theTV series Heartbeat. You can visit the Garage, the Aidensfield Arms, the Stores and Aidensfield Post Office. You could also take a steam train ride along the route of Harry Potter’s Hogwart’s Express from Goathland Station.
Roseberry Topping
For a wonderful walk, a climb and fantastic views, visit Roseberry Topping, the iconic hill and cliff that towers above Great Ayton in the far west of the North York Moors. It’s 1,049 feet high. Not far from Staithes in the North York Moors National Park.
